TCU Day of Service 2023, one of the biggest days of the fall.
Oh, what an amazing day this was for me and several leaders on campus. There was something about arriving on campus at 7 a.m. on a Saturday morning to prepare to welcome several TCU volunteers as they sacrificed their time to serve our community.
The chilly feeling in the air hugged me as I stepped on the wet grass for the first time that morning. There was a refreshing feeling that overcame me as I joined my team in creating one of the best welcome ceremonies, creating an exciting environment to start our morning.
There was something amazing that took place in nature in the TCU Commons for 2.5 hours as we heard the laughter and chatter of the students and staff who gathered to represent TCU while feeling the breeze brush against us.
After concluding the welcome ceremony as we were dismissed to the site locations, there was something peaceful about the quiet in the Commons, the feeling of grass under my shoes, and the breeze that touched my face. There was a sense of peace and accomplishment.
Our Executive Board had the honor of driving to different site locations that day, and the number of community service projects that took place outside brought joy to my heart. I am not sure if I would have noticed this without being connected to our class, learning, and connecting to nature.
As we wrapped up the day with over 850 volunteers and 26 sites we joined together to serve, there was a sense of gratitude for the connection we made being outside together, serving our community, and making memories by volunteering.
There is something magical that happens when we give our time. The differences we intend to make in the lives of others oftentimes make a humbly difference in our lives.
Always a volunteer and servant leader.
